For those of you who love learning about myth and felt that the myth overview I gave in the Pluto et Proserpina video was not nearly enough, here is some more info! Proserpina was taken by Hades against her will into the Underworld. He loved her, however it was a one-sided relationship in the beginning. She was tricked into eating a pomegranate, the food of the Dead and so she had to remain in the Underworld. However, she longed to see Spring so badly that Pluto took pity and allowed her to remain above ground for six months of the year and she could visit her mother, the goddess of the harvest. However, Proserpina must remain in the Underworld with Pluto the remaining months of the year. This myth was used to explain the seasons in ancient times.
